10 Words On Racing
10) Speed - obviously, since the object of a race is to be the fastest car to the finish line.
9) Acceleration - related to speed, and sometimes acceleration is more important than speed, and sometimes not.
8) Brakes - sometimes how fast you can stop is a crucial factor. Plus, short-track racing involves the brakes being used much more than super-speedways, and therefore the brakes get super hot, and how tough your brakes are against heat can be a factor in just finishing the race at all.
7) Tires - similar to brakes, since better tires help brake better. Plus, since racing involves pushing the car to it's limits to go fast, this means the better tires grip the road, the better you can go into turns without slowing down as much.
6) Fuel Efficiency - Ok, I know that's 2 words, so think of any one word that means fuel efficiency. Sometimes races come down to who doesn't have to stop for fuel as often, or who has just enough fuel to finish the race without having to lose time taking a pit stop for fuel.
5) Traction - related to tires, but this also includes the car's suspension system. Do your front and real wheels grip the track about equal, or does one or the other slip out of control at the turns? Do the tires grip the road when there's a bump in the surface? Things like that are important.
4) Aerodynamics - this includes how well air flows around the car, as well as how air flow changes when you are following another car closely vs. being in clean air with no one ahead of you. Sometimes if a car gets banged up the body panels do not allow air to flow around them as easily, and this makes the car have to push harder against the air.
3) Teamwork - auto racing is a pure team sport, absolutely. It's not just the driver, it's the pit crew, the Crew Chief and it's the mechanics in the garage, and even the company that manufactured the car.
2) Endurance - in a long race, the car must last all the way to the last lap, so if something breaks - buh-bye.
1) and the most importnat word: LUCK! Yes, even Jimmie Johnson needs a little luck sometimes.

Danica Patrick Racing In NASCAR???
http://www.nascar.com/2009/news/headlines/cup/09/05/tstewart.dpatrick.future/index.html
Tony Stewart from NASCAR Racing said he thinks Danika Patrick will eventually race in NASCAR. Now that, THAT would be cool.
Interesting reading. I always thought Danica's dream was to be the first woman to win the Indy 500, which I think means she'd have to be a full-time IRL racer, but I could be wrong.

Here's a picture of Danica, along with teammate Tony Kanaan. I got this from the Indycar website. The caption says Tony is giving some pointers to Danica. HA!! Yeah, right. This year, it's probably Danica saying to him "DOOOOOD!! Stop hitting the wall!!" How's that for pointers?

Hello, and welcome to my blog post about a new toy I just got.
It's a combination of 2 things I am really into - little electronic handheld gadgets, and NASCAR!!!

I should really get a real handheld game. I heard Nintendo has a new handheld out. I may just be buying it soon...

Oh, Look Who Won Another NASCAR Sprint Cup Race

There he is, JEFF GORDON, winner of the latest NASCAR Sprint Cup Race.
OK, usually at this point I'm typing in ALL-CAPS about how great he is. Or, maybe about how great his teammate JIMMY JOHNSON is. However, today I'd like to point out how great they are using lower-case letters. And, using the facts.
Jeff Gordon has pretty much won at least one race at every NASCAR track currently run. This week, he won at Texas. Texas was the only track he hasn't won a race at. WAS. Like, in the past.
http://www.nascar.com/2009/news/opinion/04/06/one.menz.jmenzer.jgordon.texas/index.html
Also, he has 82 victories now. This is the 6th-highest of everyone who ever raced in NASCAR. That means only 5 racers have more wins. And, he's only 37 years old. Mark Martin, one of his teammates, is in his 50's. So hopefully Jeff will eventually have more wins than anyone ever in NASCAR. GO JEFF!!!! Ooops, those pesky ALL_CAPS - CAN YOU TELL I'M EXCITED?????
Just awhile ago, I was thinking Jimmie Johnson (one of Jeff's great teammates) would become the new NASCAR God. Looks like maybe it could be JEFF GORDON?
This sport is so complicated to make predictions.

Reference To Paris Hilton With An Important Lesson

I find it to be a good video because they bring up the subject of being creative while making a meal. Why just eat food when you can make it interesting?

40th Post - JEFF GORDON ! ! !

JEFF GORDON ! ! !

So far after 3 races, the NASCAR racing points leader is..........
JEFF GORDON ! ! ! ! ! From my favorite team in NASCAR - Hendrick Motorsports.
Jeff Gordon is always someone who can win, but the last 3 years his teammate Jimmy Johnson has been winning the championship. And if Jimmy Johnson wins the cup this year, he will be promoted to the rank of racing God. But for now - JEFF GORDON ! ! ! !
Also on the Hendrick team are 2 of my other favorite racers Mark Martin and Dale Earnhart Jr.
Gotta watch out for that Kyle Busch. He's not one of my faves at all, but is a great racer in his own right.
But for now -
JEFF GORDON - YYEEEEEAAAHHHH !!!

JIMMY WINS THE CUP ! ! ! ! !
Yesterday Jimmy Johnson finished 15th in the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Race of 2008 - which means he had enough points to WIN THE SPRINT CUP !!! !!! !!! YEEEEAAAAAAHHHH!!!!
That deserves a huge woo-hoo.
That means he's won 3 championships in a row. This ties the record of most consecutive championships, tied with Cale Yarborough.
Jimmy Johnson is one of the Great Ones. Yes, like Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, Joe Montana, Tiger Woods.
If he wins it again next year, he will become God.
Plus, next year Mark Martin will join the Hendrick team. Too cool.
